I ran alongside the Brenta River, opposite to its flow. The further I ran, the more I recalled some moments in the past I was emotional with.
I stopped, as I was captivated by the scenic and green nature view. All I could feel was the tranquility in the surrounding calmness as if there was no pain in this world anymore.
My friends and I once stood on this rock. We talked about the life of the Brenta river. Julia asked me about the age of the river. It was one of the best moments in my life — serenity with my best friends.
Back to the reality, I was standing on the same rock alone. If the plants could regrow, why the river could not return?
I didn't know; maybe it was eternal. Time is like a river. It never goes back. We all live like geese swimming in the river. The trees, the hill, the grass and the sun are witnesses that I could not relive the past. The water of the river will flow to the ocean finally. It will flow to a bank of emotion. It loves, hates, and weeps. Nevertheless, our memories of the ocean will linger on, long after our footprints in the sand are gone, just like the everlasting past might even fade away someday. I sighed with sadness as I faced the truth.
“ The river is immortal, Julia, so are our memories.” Our memories and thoughts indeed age, just as people do, but certain memories never fade, and certain thoughts never age.
